The Four P’s

30 Apr

Practically every company on the planet sets out with the primary objective of making money. This is generally done by manufacturing some form of product, or offering a service, and then charging people money for it. This fundamental principle is fairly straight-forward, though it contains many specific details.

First of all, it is a very rare case that a business can offer a product or service that is truly unique and cannot be provided by anyone else. This means that your enterprise will be competing with other businesses that sell a similar item and you will both be trying to make money from the same shoppers, who only want to spend their money once. So how can you boost the chances of them spending money with you?

Marketing is the primary tool used by modern businesses to draw potential customers to do business with them and not with their competitors. It is a very extensive topic that is influenced by a great deal of internal and external factors, but when done right it can be the single business practice that can make or break a corporation.

So where should you begin when creating a marketing strategy for your own business? Well, every situation is different, and every business will have its own set of advantages and weaknesses that must be taken into consideration, but there is a marketing principle that can be applied to almost any corporation to be used as a marketing framework.

The Marketing Mix

The marketing mix was a phrase that was first coined during the 1950’s and is an expression that is used to describe the fundamental building blocks of any marketing strategy. It demonstrates the fact that marketing is not a simple, blunt-edged business tool, but rather a subtle balance of different elements of business functions. It got its name because it is similar to the ingredients checklist for a recipe.

The term was later developed to include the concept of “four P’s” that described the essential elements of the marketing mix. The formalisation of these P’s made it very clear for company managers and marketers to quickly relate the elements of marketing to the strengths of their own companies, and by doing so could very quickly form a personalised and effective marketing strategy.

While we were planning the launch of our own recycled flags we applied concepts in the marketing mix to devise a strategy.

Product

Whilst every element of the marketing mix is a necessity, the “product” element mentioned as one of the four P’s is possibly the most critical of all. It describes the physical product or intangible service that your business will be selling, and at the end of the day it is the reason that buyers are going to spend money with you. If this element is not adequately managed then your company will find it hard to make it through.

Several people don’t think that marketing has any role to play when it comes to the actual product that your company is selling. In fact, the common train of thought very often bears the precise opposite sentiment. Surely it should be the opposite way around – your manufacturing department creates an item for sale and then it is the job of the marketing department to find ways to sell it, right? This is not always the case.

Consider the computer software market as an example. There are many well-known brands of both operating system and software application solutions in the marketplace already, and since the market is relatively well saturated it would be very tough (and expensive) to “take on the big boys”. So how can the principles of the marketing mix help in this situation?

Rather than creating an operating system and then trying to craft a marketing strategy to take on the likes of Microsoft or Apple, it would be far more effective to look at what types of product are desired in the current marketplace, and how viable it would be to manufacture and sell them.

Once your goods have been designed and created it is still a critical skill to be able to objectively evaluate your own products to identify the reasons that a customer should buy your product rather than a competitors’.

A different form of this part of the marketing mix is known as product variation and is generally used to either lengthen the lifecycle of a product already in the market, or to make your brand new product attractive to as many customers as possible. Again, this method can be applied at all stages of product development.

The motor industry uses this technique very effectively by offering various engines, trim packages and interior options with the cars that they sell. They use the marketing mix to great effect to sell their own products in an extremely competitive marketplace. Although these companies may have substantial marketing budgets, the same principles can be applied to all companies.

We do not have a defined marketing team in our company though many of our administrators have been able to adopt marketing as part of their job role.

Price

Another important factor in the marketing mix relates to the price of your products or services. This is not a simple case of carrying out market research to determine the top price that your customers would spend (although that can be a useful tool to use), but rather making use of the price of your products as a strategic tool designed to achieve any specific goals your company has.

Whilst it may seem obvious, it’s still worth noting that price has always been, and likely always will be, one of the crucial factors that customers take into account when they are making a purchase. It is also worth noting that customers do not constantly consider the cheapest price to be the best value. In fact a price that is too low can often turn customers away.
There are many questions that you need to ask yourself while devising a good pricing plan, key amongst which are the price sensitivity of your clients, what your competitors are doing and how can pricing maximise your own profits. From a strategy point of view though, pricing can be covered by two main principals; price skimming and penetration pricing. These are outlined below.

Price skimming

The principal idea driving price skimming is to make as much cash as possible from the segment of the market which is price-insensitive and are going to be willing to spend a premium amount of money to receive a product or service early on.

This pricing technique is very often used in the consumer electronics market where customers will often eagerly await the launch of a new mobile phone or computer games console. Makers could set almost any price they wanted to and there would still be a loyal core of customers that would pay it.

Penetration pricing

Penetration pricing is at the other end of the pricing spectrum, and is geared towards gaining a large market share at a short-term cost so that financial rewards can be made long into the future. It can be a high risk strategy, but when used correctly it can setup revenue streams for many years to come.

Yet another thing to bear in mind is that “price” is the only part of the marketing mix that will generate revenue for a business. The other members of the four P’s will all cost money to create or undertake. So it is even more essential to get your pricing technique right.

When promoting your company website it’s important to select an appropriate keyphrase. Imprinted balloons suited our company the best and we have made the appropriate marketing changes.

Place

Place is the part of the marketing mix that is often overlooked by companies, but it’s still a significant part of selling your product effectively. In a nutshell, it describes the method in which you deliver your product to your customer, and consequently how you receive money from them. It can be a fantastic marketing technique when applied correctly.

The most common ramifications of place-based marketing are the physical venues in which your products are sold. For the vast majority of consumer products, this includes the distribution network between your production centres and shops and other outlets around the world. Since distribution of a physical product costs money it is crucial to determine your own priorities and adjust your distribution network accordingly. This is the main application of this element of the marketing mix.

With the growing use of the Internet by your potential customers, marketing techniques have had to take into account how they use the Internet to help deliver their products. By using the Internet as a place of contact (or even as an entire distribution channel in download-based markets such as MP3s) companies are now able to reach out to a huge pool of possible customers.

Promotion

When you say the word “marketing”, many people instantly think of the promotional aspect of the marketing mix, although as we have seen, this is merely one branch of a more comprehensive system. Promotion can be employed on a very individual basis or as a mass communication tool, and whilst it can be a costly undertaking it is often an important one.

Advertising is one of the most common forms of promotion. Classically it would be done by posting on billboards, producing short clips for TV and radio or by physically distributing flyers or leaflets to potential buyers. With the coming of the information age we have seen a great increase in promotion via e-mail and the Internet, or just as targeted advertising material posted through your front door. The potential for individualised advertising has never been so great.

Another important part of promotion involves branding, which will not necessarily yield more sales directly, but relates back to one of the preliminary functions of marketing; getting customers to pick your product over those of your rivals. When all other pieces of the marketing mix are equal it can be branding that swings a customer’s choice.

Putting it into Practice

As previously mentioned each company is different and will have different marketing requirements. By using a mixture of the four P’s discussed above you can take an effective view of your own marketing strategy.

The Singing Machine Karaoke

30 Apr

I love to write about a variety of interesting topics. I do not have a favorite topic in mind, but I really enjoy writing about almost anything right now. At this time I am starting an online business. I have been known to write about credit cards, insurance, Spanish, English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian, German and other languages. I speak several different languages and currently I’m going to school to acquire a bachelors degree.

When I’m done with school, I will continue to do SEO work and write articles. I enjoy writing articles because I’m able to learn more about the topics that I’m not very familiar with. Of course, I have to learn about the topics first, and I do much of my research on the internet. I am able to write about what I have learned on that topic. For example, if I am learning, or if I am going to write an article about a topic, I first go online and I research that topic. Sometimes it only takes me a few minutes when I am somewhat familiar with the topic already. It depends on how familiar I am with the topic. Sometimes it might take me an hour or more to learn about the topic. Either way, I am continuing my education.

I look at all kinds of sites. I like to look at sites like yahoo answers, Google News, Yahoo news, CNN, Fox news, press releases and other reference materials. After I have researched the topic well, I can write something from off the top of my head. To give you an example you can check out some of my work in the highlighted links.

I then set the article aside and maybe wait a few hours, sometimes a day and then I’ll get back to it later with fresh eyes and a good night’s sleep. Next I’ll see the article, and again review it for any errors or any changes needed. I like to see if it might sound better if it were put in other words, sometimes more precise and condensed. Then I’m ready to publish what I wrote, so I find the place where I want to publish it, and I submit the article. The article is then reviewed. It is usually accepted and I can go on in the next topic of choice. After the readers have the information, they can go on to look up the information that I have given to them.

Mist Systems Can Help You Keep Cool in the Hot Months of Summer

30 Apr

Summer is coming and it’s time to think of ways to stay cool if you are located where it gets very hot. In areas such as Phoenix, Arizona, where it gets extremely hot, folks have mastered how to deal with the high temps, and many of the smarter residents have got “stayin’ cool” down to a science.

One of the easiest ways to stay cool is to “just add water!” In the desert, there are lots of swimming pools! If you don’t have a pool, then head for the lakes – Phoenix is known for having more watercraft per capita than just about almost any other location in the country! Or go spend the day tubing down the river.

They say it’s a “dry heat,” but Phoenicians figured out a years ago how to cool things off with water. Back in the times before air conditioning, they used “swamp coolers” to cool off their houses. A swamp cooler blows damp, cool air through a building, which cools things off as the water evaporates. It’s called evaporative cooling, and it’s much less costly to run than air conditioning. This performs incredibly well during the dry months, but not really so well during the wet monsoon season in late summer. Smart people use the evaporative cooler to spend less money right up until the monsoon, then they turn on the air conditioning.

Out-of-doors, evaporative cooling is effective, even in the monsoon season. That’s why so many people in Phoenix put up mist systems. These systems squirt water into the surroundings and can cool off a outdoor patio or enclosed area rather well, especially if the air is moving. Mister fans can cool things down as much as 30 degrees (fahrenheit). You are likely to notice misting systems at all dining establishments that have outdoor patios, and every other service that calls for people to be outdoors in the heat. Many people who have a backyard outdoor patio set up a mist system in order to enjoy their backyard more in the summer months.

Although they don’t call for a lot of attention, you need to conduct some periodic maintenance to make certain your mister system will perform correctly when you need it. In the Fall, this basically means draining the water from the lines and disconnecting the lines for the winter.

In Springtime, before the Summertime heat happens, you’ll need to reconnect the system, examine the pump (or water source) to check that it’s working, and check your mist system lines for leaks. If your system uses stainless steel mist line, this shouldn’t be much of a problem. Just check the joints and fittings for leaks. If you’re using plastic lines, you’ll want to test the total system for cracks and breaks.

The next thing to do is to be certain the misting system nozzles aren’t clogged. If you dwell in a region that has hard water, the mister nozzle may be clogged by mineral deposits. It may be possible to just simply clean the deposits from the top of the misting nozzle, but if the deposits are on the inside the mist nozzle hole, you’ll have to find a pin or an item tiny enough to poke through it in order to clean out the clog. Be careful not to increase the size of the pinhole! What most pro mister system suppliers do is simply replace all the misting nozzles since it’s easier and requires a lot less time than to try to clean out each nozzle, and the cost of mister nozzles is fairly reduced when you buy them in bulk.

The First Steps Of Marketing

29 Apr

Nearly every company on the planet sets out with the main objective of making money. This is usually done by manufacturing some form of product, or offering a service, and then charging people money for it.

First of all, it is a very rare case where a company can offer a product or service that is genuinely unique and cannot be supplied by anyone else. This means that your company will be contesting with other businesses that sell a similar product and you will both be trying to earn money from the same customers, who only want to spend their cash once.

Marketing is the primary tool used by modern organisations to draw prospective customers to do business with them and not with their rivals. It is a very broad topic that is affected by a great number of internal and external factors, but when done right it can be the one business practise that could make or break a company.

So where should you begin when constructing a marketing strategy for your own company? Well, every situation is different, and every industry will have its own set of strengths and weaknesses that must be taken into consideration, but there is a marketing principle that can be applied to almost any company to be used as a marketing platform.

The Marketing Mix

The marketing mix was a term that was first coined during the 1950’s and is an expression that is used to describe the fundamental building blocks of any marketing strategy. It reflects the fact that marketing is not a straightforward, blunt-edged business tool, but rather a subtle balance of different aspects of business functions.

The term was later developed to include the idea of “four P’s” that described the critical elements of the marketing mix. The formalisation of these P’s made it very easy for company managers and marketers to quickly associate the elements of marketing to the strengths of their own companies, and by doing so could very rapidly create a customised and effective marketing system. The four P’s are Product, Price, Place and Promotion.

Our company created a marketing strategy for our own decorative concrete floor range by using this marketing mix to determine our marketing advantages.

Product

Whilst every aspect of the marketing mix is a necessity, the “product” element mentioned as one of the four P’s is perhaps the most critical of all. It identifies the physical product or intangible service that your business will be offering, and at the end of the day it is the reason that customers are going to spend money with you.

Several people do not think that marketing has any role to play when it comes to the actual product that your company is selling. In fact, the common train of thought very often bears the exact opposite sentiment. Surely it should be the opposite way around – your production department creates an item for sale and then it is the task of the marketing department to find ways to sell it, right?

Consider the computer software market as an example. There are many well-known brands of both operating system as well as software application solutions in the marketplace already, and because the market is relatively well saturated it would be very tough (and expensive) to “take on the big boys”. So how could the principles of the marketing mix help in this circumstance?

Rather than creating an operating system and then trying to craft a marketing strategy to rival the likes of Microsoft or Apple, it would be more effective to look at what types of product are sought after in the current marketplace, and how viable it would be to manufacture and sell them.

Once your products have been designed and created it is still a critical skill to be able to objectively evaluate your own products to recognise the reasons why a customer should buy your product rather than a competitors’.

Another form of this part of the marketing mix is known as product variation and is typically used to either lengthen the lifecycle of a product already in the market, or to make your new product attractive to as many consumers as possible. Once again, this method can be applied at all stages of product development.

The motor industry uses this technique very effectively by offering various engines, trim packages and interior options with the cars that they sell. They use the marketing mix to great effect to sell their own goods in an extremely competitive marketplace. Although these companies may have substantial marketing budgets, the same concepts can be applied to all companies.

As part of our own promotion plan, our baby giraffe business thoroughly researched exactly what made our products stand out from the masses.

Price

Another key factor in the marketing mix relates to the price of your products or services. This is not a simple case of performing market research to determine the highest price that your customers would spend (although that can be a handy tool to use), but rather making use of the price of your products as a strategic tool designed to achieve any particular goals your business has. The potential benefits of an effective pricing plan are surprisingly substantial!

Although it may seem obvious, it is still worth noting that price has always been, and probably always will be, one of the key factors that shoppers take into account when they are making a purchase. It is also worth noting that customers do not constantly consider the lowest price to be the best value. In fact a price that is too low can often turn buyers away.

There are many questions that you need to ask yourself when devising a good pricing plan, key amongst which are the price sensitivity of your clients, what your competitors are doing and how can pricing boost your own profits. From a strategy point of view though, pricing can be covered by two primary principals; price skimming and also penetration pricing.

Price skimming

The main idea behind price skimming is to make as much cash as possible from the sector of the market which is price-insensitive and will be prepared to spend a large amount of money to receive a product or service early on.

This pricing technique is frequently used in the consumer electronics industry where customers will often eagerly await the release of a new mobile phone or computer games console. Manufacturers could set nearly any price they wanted to and there would still be a loyal core of customers that would pay it. By using this method as part of a pre-ordering strategy, a firm can help to smooth its own money flow.

Penetration pricing

Penetration pricing is at the opposite end of the pricing spectrum, and is tailored towards gaining a large market share at a short-term cost so that financial benefits can be made long into the future. It can be a risky strategy, but when used correctly it can create revenue streams for many years to come.

Another thing to keep in mind is that “price” is the one part of the marketing mix that will generate income for a business. The other members of the four P’s will all cost money to create or carry out. So it is even more vital to get your pricing strategy right.

Our organisation has tweaked its company webpage so pork cooking appears very regularly so more people can find us through search engines.

Place

Place is the portion of the marketing mix that’s often overlooked by companies, but it is still a significant part of selling your product successfully. In short, it describes the method in which you provide your product to your customer, and consequently how you receive money from them. It can be a great marketing technique when applied correctly.

The most typical implications of place-based marketing are the physical venues in which your goods are sold. For the vast majority of consumer products, this includes the distribution network between your manufacturing centres and shops and other outlets around the country. Since distribution of a physical product costs money it is important to determine your own priorities and adapt your distribution network accordingly.

With the growing use of the Internet by your potential customers, marketing strategies have had to consider how they use the Internet to help distribute their products. By using the Internet as a place of contact (or even as a whole distribution channel in download-based markets such as MP3s) companies are now able to reach out to a huge pool of possible customers.

Promotion

When you say the word “marketing”, most people immediately think of the promotional aspect of the marketing mix, although as we have seen, this is merely one branch of a more complete system. Promotion can be employed on a very individual basis or as a mass communication tool, and whilst it can be an expensive undertaking it is often an essential one.

Advertising is one of the most common forms of promotion. Classically it would be done by posting on billboards, producing short clips for TV and radio or by physically handing out flyers or leaflets to potential buyers. With the arrival of the information age we have witnessed a great increase in promotion via e-mail and the Internet, or simply as targeted advertising material posted through your front door.

Another important part of promotion involves branding, which will not necessarily yield more sales directly, but goes back to one of the preliminary functions of marketing; getting customers to pick your product over those of your rivals. When all other parts of the marketing mix are equal it can be branding that sways a customer’s decision.

Putting it into Practise

As previously mentioned each company is different and will have different marketing requirements. By using a balance of the four P’s reviewed above you can take an effective view of your own marketing plan.

Pest control in Stretford, Urmston and Flixton 2010

29 Apr

Pest Control in Cheshire, Lancashire and Manchester has seen a lively start (2010) which is unexpected given the relatively cold winter of 2009/10.

Pest controllers were kept working with the usual town centre rat problems all thoughout the winter of course, but the relatively cold early spring has already brought some ant infestations reported.

The wet summers of 2008 and 2009 were not to the benefit of the hymenoptera (bees, ants, sawflies and wasps) but 2010 looks like being a active year for flying ant problems.

Usually ants make nests under the floors of houses and inside cavity walls causing a large number of foraging ants to infest kitchens and food cupboards.

However it is at their mating time when they can be most annoying as they release winged males and queens which then mate on the wing.

The release of thousands of these flying ants inside your house can be traumatic indeed.

A fairly new pest was very troublesome in the Lancashire, Manchester and Cheshire area last season, the Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci).

It was rare for pest controllers in Cheshire, Lancashire and Manchester to deal with these pests until recent times but they seemed to appear from nowhere in 2008 and already this March has seen reports of these beetles in large numbers.

They have a similar life cycle to moths their larvae, called woolly bears devour natural fibres and can do great damage to carpets and some fabrics. They are a difficult and tricky pest to remove.

Bed Bugs are carrying on their resurgence in the Cheshire, Lancashire and Manchester area, frequently arriving as stowaways in the suitcases of returning holiday makers.

Regularly the first reaction of those unfortunates who realise that they have been infested with these revolting,blood-sucking creatures is to get rid of the old beds and get.

This is an expensive error as despite their name bed bugs do not just live in beds and in an infested bedroom will be found everywhere within about fifteen feet of the bed, in cupboards, drawers etc, even in electrical and telephone sockets and the new beds will be quickly re-infested.

Many people mistake bed bugs with dust mites which are not visible to the naked eye.

They dine just on blood which they syphon from their sleeping hosts. People regularly associate bed bugs with dirty conditions but nothing could be less accurate, they do not require grime, they eat you!

Up to the end of April 2010 Harrier & Manchester Pest Control are offering a 25% reduction on their guaranteed ant treatment.

This revolutionary treatment which is guaranteed for three years, extendable indefinitely in further three year chunks by a simple re-treatment every three years, can be carried out on most homes subject to satisfactory, free

For the summer of 2010 Harrier Pest Control are offering a fixed price for destroying wasps nests in the Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire area of just thirty two pounds.

Contact Harrier Pest control for further details on 0800 019 8382 or 0161 930 8814
